A Firsthand Hospitality Watch Experience

Hospitality Watch stayed at Fairmont Makati from February 14–15, 2026, during the Valentine’s Day weekend, one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

When the MICHELIN Guide expanded its hotel selection in the Philippines, Fairmont Makati was among the properties recognized for delivering a stay worthy of international attention.

Located in the heart of Makati’s central business district and directly connected to Greenbelt, the hotel has long been regarded as one of the city’s premier luxury addresses. Naturally, we wanted to experience firsthand what makes the property stand out.

Our visit was from the perspective of a family traveling with two young children rather than business travelers, giving us the opportunity to evaluate the hotel beyond its corporate appeal.

Our first impression began at arrival. We checked in at around 3:00 PM, the hotel’s standard check-in time. However, our room became available only at approximately 3:45 PM, resulting in a wait of about 45 minutes before we could settle in. Considering the hotel was operating during a busy holiday weekend, the delay was understandable.

Even so, in the luxury segment, a seamless arrival experience often sets the tone for the rest of the stay—particularly for families traveling with young children.

Once inside the room, Fairmont Makati delivered the comfort and quality expected from an international luxury hotel.

The guestrooms were spacious, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed, while the facilities throughout the property were clean and in excellent condition. Its direct connection to Greenbelt remains one of its strongest advantages, allowing guests convenient access to shopping, dining, and entertainment without leaving the complex.

One detail we genuinely appreciated was the hotel’s use of Le Labo bath amenities. It’s a thoughtful luxury touch that elevates the in-room experience and reinforces the property’s premium positioning. While amenities alone don’t define a hotel stay, details like these contribute to the refined experience that guests have come to expect from luxury hospitality.

Service throughout our stay was generally accommodating. The staff we encountered were courteous, professional, and always willing to assist whenever needed. However, we also observed that guest greetings and acknowledgements were not always consistent throughout the property. Some team members warmly welcomed guests with genuine hospitality, while others interacted in a more transactional manner. In luxury hospitality, consistency is often what transforms good service into a truly memorable guest experience.

Breakfast was one of the busiest aspects of our stay. As expected during a peak travel weekend, the restaurant experienced long queues during the morning rush, resulting in a noticeable wait before guests could be seated. While understandable given the high occupancy, it is something future guests should be aware of if visiting during holidays or long weekends.

The breakfast spread itself offered a good variety and met expectations for a five-star hotel. While the quality was solid, it wasn’t particularly memorable and ultimately wasn’t one of the standout highlights of our stay.

Our family also spent time at the swimming pool, where we noticed staff actively enforcing house rules. Guest safety is, of course, essential, but the frequency of reminders occasionally made the atmosphere feel more restrictive than relaxing. A warmer and more conversational approach could help preserve the welcoming environment that many families look for when enjoying the hotel’s leisure facilities.

One small detail that surprised us was the absence of a welcome drink upon arrival. While certainly not a requirement, it’s a thoughtful gesture that many luxury hotels continue to offer and one that helps create a memorable first impression.

Overall, Fairmont Makati delivered a comfortable, polished, and dependable luxury stay.

The hotel excels in its location, room quality, facilities, and premium amenities. At the same time, we believe there are opportunities to further elevate the guest journey through a smoother arrival process during peak periods, more consistent guest engagement across all departments, and additional hospitality touches that leave a lasting impression.
